MORE than 60 youngsters from the River Teign Sea Scouts (1st Shaldon) and their parents took part in the annual sponsored walk on Dartmoor.

They had a choice of three treks, from three to ten kilometres, around the Haytor area.

During the walk the group encountered all kinds of moor plants, wildlife and history.

They walked through fields of bluebells, a mediaeval village, stood in iron age stone circles, and saw a hidden quarryman's hut, and some even caught a glimpse of adders.

'It was a fantastic event which everybody enjoyed, and we hope to raise several hundred pounds towards equipment and outings for the Sea Scout group,' said chairman Craig Scollick.

'We also want to thank the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team from Ashburton, who assisted with marshalling.'
