NEwton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris has said she was ‘delighted’ with Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling’s visit and his guarantee the Dawlish rail line will be protected.

Mr Grayling visited the line last week and announced ambitious plans to protect its future, including a £500 million option to rebuild the line on a 400-metre causeway on the beach near Teignmouth’s Sprey Point.

The other would involve a major restabilisation of the cliffs.

He said: ‘After just three months in this job visiting the Dawlish rail line has been a priority of mine. We need to make sure the railway keeps running even if we have difficult winters.

‘We’re doing everything we can to make sure it doesn’t get cut off again. Doing nothing for the future is not an option.’READ THE FULL STORY IN FRIDAY, October 28, 2016 edition.ORDER YOUR DIGITAL EDITION HERE http://bit.ly/1BbGeG
