MEERKATS, macaws and lemurs joined the wedding guests at a ceremony with a difference last weekend.

Shaldon Wildlife Trust's head keeper Jenna Barry exchanged rings and vows with her childhood sweetheart, web developer Alex Crawford, in a first of its kind event at the zoo.

The couple, who met at school in Milton Keynes when they were 13, were legally married at a register office the day before.

The bridegroom and guests waited at the meerkat enclosure while the bridal party of Mrs Crawford and four bridesmaids – her sister and three best friends – entered the zoo from the exit.
