FAST food chain McDonald’s has been given consent to install its famous ‘Golden Arch’ signs at its new Kingsteignton restaurant, following planning permission being granted for the site earlier this year.

Teignbridge Council has granted advertising consent for the fast-food giant’s branding at the former Beefeater site off Newton Road, including two illuminated Golden Arches.

The planning authority has also approved a freestanding totem sign and two banner signs as part of the proposals.

Planning permission for the new restaurant was granted by Teignbridge Council in June, paving the way for the former Grandstand to be transformed into a McDonald’s.

The application, submitted by McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd under reference 26/00677/FUL, sought permission for alterations to the existing building, including replacement heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

The building was previously home to The Grandstand, which closed in July 2024 after operating under the Beefeater brand.

The plans have attracted objections, with concerns raised over potential increases in traffic, smells and litter, as well as an increased risk of flooding.

However, McDonald’s says the development will bring ‘significant investment’ to the area and create more than 100 full and part-time jobs.

A McDonald’s spokesperson told the Mid-Devon Advertiser: ‘We are excited about the opportunity to open a restaurant in Kingsteignton, expected to open late 2026’.

The company clarified that the new restaurant will not include a drive-thru.
