MAYOR of Dawlish Cllr Lisa Mayne will read the official proclamation for the accession of King Charles III.
The event will be held at 4.30pm today from the balcony at the Manor House in Dawlish.
Cllr Mayne expressed her sadness on the passing of the Queen, conveying condolences on behalf of the parish of Dawlish.
She said: ‘I have the privilege to be reading the proclamation for the new King Charles III.
‘I would love for as many Dawlish residents to attend as possible.
‘This time slot has been specially chosen to allow as many school children to attend after school for this short ceremony, as this historic event hasn’t happened in over 70 years,’
A book of condolence for Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II has been opened at Dawlish Town Council offices at the Manor House.
In accordance with protocol it was signed first by Cllr Mayne, Deputy Mayor, then Cllr Rosie Dawson and town clerk, Andrew McKenzie.
The book of condolence is available for members of the public to sign.
Those wanting to lay floral tributes can do so at the foot of the Monterey Pine in the middle of the turning circle, at the Manor House.
In accordance with protocol, flags at the Manor House and Piazza have been lowered to half-mast.
These were raised to full mast at 10am on Saturday, September 10 at the start of the proclamation in London and remained so until 1 pm on Sunday, when they returned to half-mast.
At the start of the town council’s proclamation, the flag at the Manor House will again be raised to full mast for the duration.
Once finished, it will be lowered to half-mast until 8am on the day following the state funeral.
