Mayor of Chudleigh, Cllr Victoria Hadley, said: ‘ I heard the announcement of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth the Second with great sadness.

‘She has been our Queen since 1952 so most people will have no recollection of a time when she was not our Monarch.

‘I know that many residents of Chudleigh will be deeply affected by this sad event and will wish to express their sorrow in some way.

‘Consequently, I have arranged for condolence books to be placed in the Town Hall and in the Parish Church.

‘They will be available for you to comment and sign until the day after the Queen’s state funeral.

‘Alternatively, there is an online book of condolence at https://www.royalmail.com/

‘If you wish to leave a floral tribute these can be placed in the garden of 1 The Square.’
