AN EQUINE event which dates back generations took place in the rustic wooden pens of a moorland town’s grass market last week.
The annual drift sale at Rendells’ Chagford Market last Thursday is something of a social occasion for those who keep herd ponies on the moor and is one of the last traditional pony sales in the country.
Rendells are the last firm within the Dartmoor National Park to carry on this time honoured tradition selling this ancient native breed. Last year’s pony sale was almost cancelled due to last minute changes issued by Defra, that required a pony passport to be issued on site, at a remote rural location with poor phone and internet coverage.
