A MAN will appear in court today after being arrested on suspicion of committing several shoplifting offences in Newton Abbot and Torquay.

Karl Underwood, a 28 year old male from Stitchill Road, Torquay was arrested on Friday, July 4 on suspicion of committing a number of shoplifting offences across the two towns.

On Saturday, July 5, Underwood was charged with nine offences and kept in police custody.

Underwood will appear before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court today, Monday, July 7.

‘This was achieved due to the support from businesses who provided vital evidence in the form of statements and CCTV’, Torquay Police said.

‘We hope this will give a bit of respite to our business community whilst we await the outcome from court

‘Please keep reporting offences in your stores, we will investigate them’, Torquay Police added.
