A MAN has admitted assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest in Newton Abbot.

Christopher James Townsend, aged 31, whose address was given as c/o the Probation Service, Torquay, admitted assaulting an emergency worker, PC Simon Coffield, and resisting PC Coffield in the execution of his duty.

Townsend also admitted he assaulted Diane Townsend by beating. He was remanded on bail until March 28 for pre-sentence reports and an exclusion order was made preventing him from contacting directly or indirectly Ms Townsend.

He also pleaded guilty to driving a VW Polo in Teignmouth in October 2021 while banned and not covered by insurance. He was also remanded on bail until March 28 for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.
