CARING members of Newton Abbot WI have been working hard to help the parents grieving the loss of a baby.

Karen and Bev handed over 10 angel beds to Anna, the lead Bereavement Midwife at the Special Baby Care Unit at Torbay Hospital.

‘We had covered shoe boxes in fabric, made a little mattress, pillow and knitted blanket in pastel colours,’ said Karen.

‘Obviously this was a very emotional project to do, but hope that they will help in the grieving process of recently bereaved parents.’

‘After delivering the ‘traffic light’ baby hats to the Special Care Baby Unit at Torbay Hospital, we were asked, by Anna, the Bereavement Lead Midwife, if we could make ‘Angel Blankets’? The answer of course was ‘Yes’.

‘When I took this project back to our lovely ladies, I did not expect the response I got. We were really pleased to be able to hand over.

They delivered 43 blankets, and 8 little baby hats.

‘All made with lots of love,’ said Karen.

‘Anna also asked us if we could make some ‘Angel Beds’ too.

‘We as a WI are so proud of being able to help knitting the baby hats, Angel blankets, and Angel beds, and will continue with these as and when they are needed.’
