Artists across Devon are offering the public a chance to meet them in their creative spaces this month.

More than 350 are taking part in Devon Open Studios, running from Saturday, September 12 until Sunday 20.

It’s an opportunity to visit the studios, see the artists and makers at work, view their completed exhibits and buy directly from them.

In the Teignbridge area several individuals are opening the doors to the studios in their own homes. There are also collectives of artists taking part as a group in a single venue.

Kate Farmery is president of Devon Artist Network, which organises the initiative as part of its work to help artists reach wider audiences.

She said: “From painters, printmakers and potters to jewellers, textile artists and contemporary craft makers, you’ll find work rooted in Devon’s landscapes, communities and stories.

“What makes Open Studios so special is the chance to meet these creators in person - to see how they work, hear what inspires them and discover beautiful handmade pieces available to buy directly from the people who made them.

“Many studios are clustered in small towns, villages and rural pockets, making it easy to plan a route and visit several in one trip.

“Take your time, enjoy the conversations and let yourself be surprised by what you find. You might leave with a new artwork, a thoughtful gift or simply a deeper appreciation for the creativity thriving across Devon.

There are individual Open Studios events in Teignmouth, Kingsteignton, Bishopsteignton, Chudleigh, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead.

The collectives taking part include Edge of the Teign in Coombinteignheard, Bovey Paradiso, Green Hill Studios in Moretonhanpstead, Makers Barn in Ashburton, TAAG in Teignmouth and Moorland Makers near Bovey Tracey.
