Newton Abbot and District Musical Comedy Society held its annual meeting at The Greenrooms, Newton Abbot.

It has been another successful year for the society and they continue to go from strength to strength.

Their year started in October with the production of Made in Dagenham – they were the first society to perform this musical in the region and it was a huge success, with most performances a sell-out.

Made in Dagenham was even awarded the NODA (National Operatic and Drama Association) achievement award at the South West NODA awards.

2017 continued to be a great year for the society with the popular family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk in January, while the junior theatre brought the lively musical of Back to the ’80s to the stage in May.

This year the society’s Joy Adams Memorial Award was presented to Will Tippett for his continued hard work and dedication and for controlling the sound/lighting for many of the productions.

The junior cup was awarded to Sam Horstead for his hard work and loyalty at NEWTS, while Barbara Worden was made a life member for her contribution to the society.

The society is currently in rehearsals for its next production 9-5 The Musical, which is based on the 1980 movie of the same name, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton.

It opens on Monday, October 2 and runs until Saturday, October 7.
