THE rich variety of activities enjoyed by members of Teignmouth and District u3a were celebrated on u3a National Day.

This was a national event with lots of different activities to get involved in and enjoy.

‘Learn, laugh, live’ is the essence of u3a.

Members can learn from each other, just by being part of a group. Enjoyment of the activity or just being in someone’s company is going to lead to inevitable laughter.

Teignmouth and District is one of 1,057 u3as across the country, with a total membership of more than 450,000, so this event will provide a wonderful opportunity for members to lend their support locally, as well as being part of the ‘bigger picture’.

Peter Hayes, publicity officer for the Teignmouth and District u3a reports: ‘After several months of planning for this day, the members of Teignmouth and District u3a weren’t going to let the wet weather spoil the occasion.

‘The mayor, Cllr Peter Williams and his wife, Cllr Cate Williams, also showed their resilient spirit by turning up to announce the start of the day’s proceedings.

‘Town crier, Patrick Brophy, got the first walk underway on time.

‘All displays on the tennis court went ahead and the Pavilions foyer was able to showcase all forty two activities currently enjoyed by u3a members.

‘The ukulele group and the Teign Tunesmiths were also able to perform by taking advantage of an unexpected break in the weather.

‘To round off the day, a special Zoom quiz was held, in which 50 members took part.

‘A well earned glass of wine added to the entertainment and some rather peculiar answers to some of the questions!

‘A day to remember in more ways than one – determination that the show must go on truly reflected the spirit of the occasion!’
