A LARGE scale emergency service response that saw boats and helicopters deployed in Newton Abbot last night turned out to be a ‘false alarm’.
Emergency services were called to Teign Road at around 8pm yesterday evening, Wednesday, March 25, following a report of a person in distress in the water.
Police, fire and ambulance crews and the coastguard, including boats and helicopters, attended to carry out land and water searches.
A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: ‘Following area searches and enquiries no one was located and it is believed this was a false alarm reported in good faith’.
