A developer has earmarked another greenfield site at Teignmouth for a large housing estate.

It wants to build 'at least' 250 homes on fields north of the Drake Avenue area, adjoining Higher Exeter Road.

It comes on top of proposals to construct 162 houses alongside Shepherds Lane next to the Lovell estate, and another 45 on a strip of land near Thatcher Drive, off Higher Woodway Road.

If all the schemes are approved, it would swell the population of Teignmouth by about 1,500, which many fear would place a heavy strain on roads, schools and other facilities.

But without an approved local plan for Teignbridge in place, developers are promoting new estates all around the edge of the town.
