CHRISTMAS is just around the corner – and with it the traditional warning from police for celebrants to protect their burgeoning store of presents from opportunist thieves.
Officers in Teignbridge say they will be working closely with partners in the community to execute initiatives in the run-up to the big day which will keep seasonal thieving at bay.
The seasonal advice is for buyers to protect their Christmas purchases by storing them out of sight so light-fingered intruders aren’t tempted to help themselves.
Det Sgt Chris Tapley from Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘Burglary is a serious and invasive offence which has a devastating impact on victims.
‘You can make a big difference keeping your home and car safe from burglary, by taking just a few simple steps.’
Tips offered include locking vehicles and closing windows, keeping gifts out of sight, locking all windows and doors, security marking particularly valuable items, leaving radios or lights on when leaving home, keeping ladders and tools stored away and not leaving them outside where they could be used to break in.
