MUST do better – that's the verdict of Ofsted inspectors on the teaching at a Teignmouth junior school.
They criticised the lack of enough 'good' teaching at Our Lady & St Patricks, and said there was not enough 'good' teaching, which was 'not yet sufficiently embedded throughout the school to secure good progress by all pupils'.
'Teachers sometimes do not check pupils' learning carefully enough during lessons, for example by asking appropriate questions, in order to help them make the next step,' states the report.
But other aspects of the Catholic school were praised. The headteacher and staff were said to have created a warm, caring atmosphere, with good provision for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. And children get off to a sound start in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
'Pupils generally enjoy their learning and achievement by the end of Year 6 is satisfactory overall. Progress in English has accelerated, as a result of better teaching of this subject, and is now good.
