THE end of the Carlton Theatre, Teignmouth, may have been a sad occasion, but the final show was full of colour, spectacle and jollity.

The sound of all the Abba favourites reverberated through the old building, and a full house joined in the well known choruses and danced in the aisles. Some were even invited on stage to dance during the performance.

It was a fitting farewell to the Carlton, which has provided so much varied entertainment over the decades, but is now well past its sell-by date and will soon be flattened to make way for a £4 million multi-purpose centre.
