NEW photos from Teignbridge fire crews show the extent of a fire that broke out at a derelict hotel in Torquay.

Firefighters from Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth, as well as crew from across Torbay and the South Hams, fought a blaze at a former Sherwood hotel from Good Friday into Saturday, April 4.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said that the disused hotel was 100 per cent destroyed by fire.

The fire service went on to say that the cause of the blaze is believed to have been deliberate.

The former seaside hotel had become an ‘anti-social behaviour magnet’ and in October 2025 had been shut down by Devon and Cornwall after an order granted by Plymouth Magistrates' Court.

The order, the first to be used on a hotel in the region, meant only authorised people such as the landlord, utility companies and the emergency services could enter the property.
