A HORSE therapy charity at Seale Hayne has celebrated the official unveiling of its new classroom.

Sirona Theraputic Horsemanship was able to buy the portable building thanks to a £12,500 donation from Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby.

The cabin is at the charity’s current base at Hannah’s at Seale Hayne but will be moved next year to its new home on the Dartington Estate.

It will provide a heated indoor space where staff and participants can warm up after working with the horses.

It will be used as a classroom for quizzes and arts and crafts and space for students on the City and Guilds Horse Care certificate course which Sirona runs in partnership with Duchy College.

The cabin will also be used as a therapy room for clients who come for equine therapy.

Official rugby mascot Pete Cross, known as Mr England, was at the opening ceremony.

Founder Dr Hannah Burgeon said: ‘We are really grateful to Wooden Spoon for this grant.

‘The new cabin has already made a big difference to us and we are excited to have our first building for our new centre at Dartington.’

Counsellor Josie Arscott added: ‘This cabin will make a big difference to have somewhere we can work with vulnerable participants who need a quiet space away from the yard.’

Sirona, which provides equine therapy and educational activities to people with disabilities and young people, has launched a crowdfunding appeal to fund its move to Dartington.
