brave young fighter pilots killed defending our country from the Luftwaffe air onslaught more than 70 years ago were remembered in a ceremony and service at Teignmouth on Sunday.

Battle of Britain Day was marked with wreath-laying at the seafront war memorial, attended by about 50 people.

Among those paying their respects were representatives of local military and community groups, the mayor, Cllr Dave Matthews, Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris, and Teignmouth councillors.

Lady Jackson-Croker, who was in the WRAF, laid a wreath on behalf of the Teignmouth branch of the Royal Air Force Association.

It was followed by a service at nearby st Michael's Church, with a moving service conducted by the Rev Preb Graham Stones, in front of a congregation of about 70.
