FAMILIES, friends and members of the local community came together to celebrate the talents of home educated children at the Home Education Art Exhibition 2026, organised by The Little Art Shed Studio.

The exhibition showcased a diverse collection of artwork created by children and young people of all ages.

Visitors enjoyed paintings, drawings, sculptures, mixed media pieces and collaborative work, with many commenting on the exceptional standard and originality of the exhibition.

The evening was officially opened by The Mayor of Newton Abbot Cllr Louise Cook who spent time meeting the young artists, talking with families and viewing the artwork on display.

Guests were welcomed along a red carpet before exploring the exhibition, taking part in a collaborative community artwork and enjoying refreshments while celebrating the achievements of the children.

Laura Slatter, founder of The Little Art Shed Studio, said: ‘This exhibition was about so much more than displaying artwork.

‘It was about giving every child the opportunity to feel proud of what they’ve created and to experience having their work exhibited in a real gallery-style setting.

‘Watching their confidence grow as visitors admired their work was incredibly special.’

The exhibition provided many children with their very first opportunity to publicly exhibit their artwork, with each piece carefully displayed and labelled as it would be in a professional exhibition.

Laura added: ‘Creativity deserves to be celebrated. Every piece told its own story, and it was wonderful to see families, friends and members of the community taking the time to appreciate the children's hard work. The atmosphere throughout the evening was fantastic.”

The event was made possible through the support of volunteers, participating families and everyone who helped behind the scenes to create a memorable evening for the young artists.

Following the success of this year's event, The Little Art Shed Studio hopes to make the Home Education Art Exhibition an annual celebration of creativity in the local home education community.
