PUB is The Hub is launching in Teignbridge to help rural pubs branch out into new services including post offices and libraries.
It will announce its Local Community Services Champions initiative, on November 3 at the Ten Tors Inn, Kingsteignton, from 10.30am.
Chief executive John Longden said: ‘We’re opening up the event to any licensees and pub owners who are considering the option of diversification, and even those who have never thought of it before.
‘We welcome anyone who wants to know more and fancies having a chat with us.’
Mr Longden and his team will be showcasing advice, support and funding for pub operators and owners who are considering a diversification scheme.
Schemes include providing post offices, shops, libraries, internet cafes, school dinners, lunch clubs for the elderly, cash point machines, IT training and meeting rooms.
Licensees Tom and Axelle Haywood from the Union Inn, Denbury, will explain how they developed a shop and post office at their 14th century inn.
Elaine Cook, chief executive of Devon Communities Together, who is backing the scheme, will also be there, as well as representatives from the Post Office and libraries service.
Pub is The Hub is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2001 by Prince Charles. It encourages local authorities, communities, licensees, pub owners and breweries to work together to support, retain and locate services within rural pubs.
It assists with guidance on availability of project funding and, having a thorough understanding of the pub business, is able to advise on the best way to progress with each individual project.
The launch of the scheme in Devon is also being backed by the Big Lottery Fund which has had an association with Pub is The Hub since 2011.
Anyone wanting to attend the meeting can telephone 01423 546165 to reserve a place or visit www.pubisthehub.org.uk
