AN animal rescue centre in Newton Abbot has put out an urgent appeal for food donations.
ELM Wildlife is the largest hedgehog rescue centre in Devon, caring for as many as 220 hogs and hoglets at any one time and with that comes an insatiable appetite; the array can easily get through 70 to 80 cans of food per day.
It was perhaps no surprise, therefore, when the charity put out an emergency appeal for donations of food via their Facebook page.
In the appeal, which was posted on Thursday, Ocotber 6, ELM Wildlife said: ‘We are really struggling, we literally have only enough food to last to the end of this week.
‘If you are able to help by donating we urgently need any cat food in jelly
‘Anything you can do to help will make a massive difference, thank you for your ongoing support.’
The charity has several drop-off points across the county for prospective donours to donate food items such as at Newton Pet & Aquatics Ltd, Liverton Post Office & Stores and the Claycutters Arms.
Hedgehogs are most keen on cat and dog food in jelly, as well as small pet biscuits.
