VISITORS to Dartmoor are being urged to take extra care this week as the risk of wildfire across the national park is now high.
The Dartmoor National Park Authority has issued a public appeal, asking people to help protect the landscape, wildlife and local communities during the period of hot, dry weather.
Visitors are being reminded that barbecues and open fires are not permitted.
The authority is also urging people to take all litter home, dispose of cigarettes and vapes safely, and avoid leaving glass bottles in direct sunlight.
Wildfires can have devastating consequences for local communities, livestock and wildlife, including ground-nesting birds and reptiles.
Officials are encouraging visitors to follow Met Office advice on staying safe in extreme heat and to enjoy the national park responsibly.
Anyone who spots a wildfire is asked to contact the fire service immediately by calling 999 and providing the exact location.
