Rotarians across the district have been involved with volunteers of Dartmoor Vale Rotary Club assisting in Sherborne House by shepherding people in and helping to keep queues to a minimum.
Meanwhile their colleagues from Newton Abbot Rotary Club have been helping to marshal the Halcyon Road car park which is currently closed to the general public and is only being used by those attending for a vaccination.
The Rotary Clubs of Newton Abbot and Dartmoor Vale have been overwhelmed with the response by residents with offers to assist them in their task of marshalling the vaccination centre and car park.
It is understood that over 450 vaccinations were completed on the first day, by the seven GP surgeries.
Rotarian Martin Smith, who has been co-ordinating the marshalling in the car park, said: ‘The joint effort of Teignbridge Council, the Primary Care Network and the two Rotary Clubs to make the vaccination centre a success demonstrates that with speedy communication and goodwill all the different organisations can achieve a worthwhile result.
‘I can only praise everybody’s contribution to get the result we have. We are now able to offer the Halcyon Car Park purely for the attendees of the vaccination centre across the road at Sherborne House – the former Job centre.
‘We are all in it together to beat the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is going to be several months to get everybody vaccinated. The primary goal is to get the vulnerable residents their jabs as soon as possible.
‘Rotarians have appreciated the kind comments by many, whilst not expected or asked for, some occasional donations have been gratefully received – which will be distributed to other local projects as needed.’
