A FURTHER 90 deaths related to coronavirus in Devon and Cornwall took place between April 11 and April 17 – 41 of which were in care homes.
The latest Office of National Statistics figures relate to all deaths that occurred between April 11 and April 17 but were registered up to April 25.
They show that across the region, two deaths for which COVID-19 is mentioned on the death certificate took place at someone’s home, 47 in a hospital, and 41 in care homes. The previous week saw 85 deaths – 28 of which were registered after April 18 when the previous figures were released.
The figures show with which local authority the death was registered.
Of the deaths, 33 were registered in Cornwall, 11 in Exeter, eight in North Devon and Torridge, seven in Torbay, six in Plymouth, five in Teignbridge and East Devon, three in West Devon, and two in Mid Devon and the South Hams.
For care home deaths, in which there were 41 in the week, up from 15 the previous seven days, 27 occurred in Devon and 14 in Cornwall.
Seven deaths occurred in Exeter, with five in Torbay, four in East Devon, three in Teignbridge, three in North Devon and Teignbridge, two in Plymouth and Torridge, and one in West Devon. No deaths in that week occurred in a care home in Mid Devon or the South Hams.
A further two people died at home – one in Cornwall and one in Torridge.
In total, the ONS stats reveal 258 people in Devon and Cornwall have died with COVID-19 registered on the death certificate. Sixteen deaths occurred at home, with 174 in hospitals and 68 in care homes.
The overall figures for deaths in 2020 related to coronavirus that occurred up to April 17 and were registered up to April 25 show 109 deaths registered in Cornwall. A further 27 were registered in Exeter and Plymouth, 23 in Torbay, 16 in Teignbridge, 13 in East Devon and North Devon, 10 in Torridge, eight in West Devon and six in Mid Devon and the South Hams. There have been no deaths in the Isles of Scilly.Of deaths in care homes, 27 have happened in Cornwall, with 11 in Exeter, seven in Torbay, six in East Devon, five in North Devon, four in Plymouth, three in Teignbridge and Torridge, two in West Devon, and none in Mid Devon and the South Hams.
