AN online public consultation is being launched by Devon County Council on Tuesday, November 17, on proposals to complete a missing link of the Teign Estuary Trail between Newton Abbot and Teignmouth.
The county council is seeking views on its plans for a 5km section of the multi-use trail next to the estuary, starting at the Passage House Inn in Newton Abbot and joining the A381 at La Roche Maurice Walk. From there, a shared use path would link to the junction near Morrisons supermarket, at the western edge of Teignmouth.
As part of the consultation, a webinar will be held from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, November 25, to cover the scheme proposals and provide people with the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback to the project team.
A further virtual ‘drop-in’ consultation event will be held at 5pm-7pm on Wednesday, December 9, enabling people to dial in to talk to the project team. Those wishing to attend either event should email [email protected] for joining instructions.
The scheme aims to improve connectivity between existing trails and to promote safe and sustainable travel in the natural environment of the Teign Estuary.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: ‘This consultation is an ideal opportunity for people to give us their feedback on our proposals to complete this missing link of the trail between Newton Abbot and Teignmouth.
‘We have always maintained our commitment to delivering the Teign Estuary Trail and we’re keen for people to comment on the proposals for this latest section. Connecting Dawlish, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot through the extension of the Teign and Exe Estuary Trails would form a national showcase, supporting leisure as well as local trips, and providing economic and health benefits on a safe, active travel route.’

‘I fully support this project linking Newton Abbot and Teignmouth. Devon County Council has always maintained its commitment to delivering the Teign Estuary Trail working with Teignbridge District Council.
‘It is important we have the views of the people and they are involved in the process.’
