The Teignbridge based Green Spirits enacted a performance on Teignmouth sea front on Bank Holiday Monday.

They were supported by local Extinction Rebellion activists to celebrate the spirit of the Earth and the need to protect her.

They reported afterwards that there was generally a good reception from members of the public, who readily engaged in conversation about the climate crisis and happily took leaflets.

A spokesperson said: ‘Many people expressed concerns about weather events and the speed of current climate change and said they were thinking of how they could change their lifestyles to mitigate towards a greener more sustainable lifestyle.

‘The event today was a repeat of a similar performance last August.’

Mike Puleston said: ‘Our presence today again demonstrates that symbolism of the increasingly more impactful man made climate crisis can increase awareness of the seriously concerning situation that we find ourselves in.

‘The current science is unequivocal that some current weather events are man made, the UN has just declared that the four year drought in Madagascar and consequential humanitarian crisis is the first recognised man made climate disaster.

‘It really is time to act.’
