A SECOND parish vicar has been appointed in Bovey Tracey.

The Rev Gregory Stanton, known as Father Gregory (pictured above), was offered the position at St John the Evangelist, Newton Road, by the Bishop of Exeter, The Right Rev Robert Atwell, two years after having assumed the less formal position of priest-in-charge.

The service took place in the church on August 9 and means Bovey once again has two vicars with the Rev Graham Hamilton at the church of St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas of Canterbury, East Street.

‘It’s unusual for a town to have two parishes and it was really good of the bishop to offer me the position,’ said 67-year-old Mr Stanton, whose wife Joyce is a lay reader.
