Shaldon beach front is to get the luxury £250,000 beach huts – likened to 'Californian beach houses' – that have split opinion in the village.
The scheme to develop the site of the former Brigantine chandlery was overwhelmingly voted through on Tuesday by district councillors sitting in Newton Abbot.
They disagreed with the chairman of the parish council, Cllr Peter Williams, that the project would set a 'most unfortunate precedent' and that eight other sites in the area would be in line for the same treatment.
