A GARDEN shed and six metres of fencing were destroyed by fire at a property in Teignmouth.

Fire crews from Teignmouth and Dawlish attended the scene after several calls were received reporting a garden shed on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they were met with a large amount of smoke issuing from a rear garden of a property and a shed and fence were well alight.

The crews got to work tackling the fire and two firefighters donned sets of breathing gear.

A hose reel jet and small tools were used along with a thermal imaging camera.

Dawlish firefighters helped Teignmouth colleagued by providing additional water and a crew members was committed into the affected property to check for any internal spread of the fire.

A spokesman for Dawlish fire station said: ‘Once the fire was extinguished crews provided advice and handed over the incident to the property owners.

‘The fire unfortunately completely destroyed one garden shed as well as approximately 6 metres of fencing, the fire also spread to the neighbouring properties shed causing approximately 40per cent damage to the shed.

‘The fire was deemed to be accidental.’
