Fun Palaces are being held at Teignbridge libraries tomorrow, October 6.
A bit like Red Nose Day, Fun Palaces is a mass participation event, encouraging people to unite and share skills, passions and activities and have a great time together. All events are free and open to all.
Fun Palaces take part in libraries and other buildings, including universities, churches, shops and cafes.
Among the many activities tomorrow in Tegnbridge libraries will be Bollywood dancing in Teignmouth; children’s stories and dad dancing in Newton Abbot; and knitting and square dancing in Dawlish.
Fun Palaces is in its fifth year. Since it began 934 Fun Palaces have been created with 340,000 participants across the UK, Ireland, Iceland, Germany, France, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Norway.
A spokesperson for the event said: ‘We’re blown away by how many Devon Fun Palaces there are and super keen to make sure people living near one knows all about it.
‘We have overall surpassed the number of Fun Palaces across the world on last year, and we think we’ll have at least 150,000 people participating this year.’
At Newton Abbot Library they’re hosting their second Fun Palace, from 9am to 2pm.
Workshops include how to make slime, knitting, Scrabble, theatre and circle dancing. There’s also live poetry, a visit from author Michelle Kenney and a dad dancing fitness class.
Teignmouth Library is hosting its first Fun Palace from 10am to midday, with Bollywood Dancing, hand bells and African drum workshops. There’s also knitting, a Lego club, junk modeling and a computer coding session.
At Dawlish Library, between 10am and midday, people can try square dancing and knitting, participate in themed family stories, songs, rhymes and activities and get creative at the library’s Lego and Duplo Club.
Ashburton Library is also joining in the fun all day long with lots of fun, free activities.
