STUDENTS at Teign School, Kingsteignton, are staging a community Get Ready For Rio sports event tomorrow.

In the run-up to this summer’s Olympics, the event will feature free taster sports sessions at the school, from curling to rugby.

Local backers so far include Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club and Newton Abbot Fencing Club.

Emma Coniam, one of the organisers, said: ‘The aim of the day, as well as everyone having lots of fun, will be to raise awareness of sporting clubs in the community and the amount of opportunities out there for people to get involved with.

‘We are hoping for an exclusive performance from a BMX flatland rider along with a huge variety of activities, like badminton and basketball, being run by local clubs and Teign School sports leaders.’

The event will start at 1pm with an official opening by Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris.

Entry is free and food and drinks will be available to buy. There is no public parking on the site.

The event is being run by students on the Teign Sports Council.
