TWO women became trapped in their car when they drove through floodwater in a country lane.

The women, both said to be young, got stuck in about half-a-metre of water as they drove through west Ogwell.

Two fire crews from Newton Abbot responded to their alarm call and attended the scene at Metley Cross.

Initially finding them was difficult as they could not give staff at fire control their exact location.

The fire service’s specialist rescue team was also sent to the scene from Camels Head.

Four firefighters put on dry suits and were able to work to move the car on to dry ground.

Watch commander Phil Scammells said: ‘The two young females were still in the car in about half-a-metre of water.

‘It was standing water.

‘Crews were able to push the vehicle to safe ground where they were able to get out.

‘The women were not hurt.’

The incident happened at about 11.30am on Wednesday.
