A FLOOD alert has been issued for the River Teign area by the Environment Agency.

It warns flooding is possible for the Rivers Teign, Bovey and Lemon and coastal streams from Babbacombe to Kenton

High river levels over the next two days may lead to flooding.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: ‘Prolonged heavy rainfall is forecast throughout Monday and into Tuesday.

‘Catchments are saturated and rivers are expected to respond.

‘Forecast levels may cause flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river.

‘The main areas of concern are Newton Abbot, Kingsteignton, Teignmouth, Shaldon, Bovey Tracey, Kingskerswell, Dawlish and Dawlish Warren.

‘We are closely monitoring the situation.

‘Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.’
