A FIRE in a first floor flat in Newton Abbot saw firefighters mobilised.

Sunday [July 27] evening saw Newton Abbot Fire Station and Torquay Fire Station mobile appliance after receiving calls about the fire.

Upon arrival, crews saw smoke issuing from the property, before quickly locating the source in the bedroom of a first floor flat.

The room was 20 per cent damaged by fire and the remainder of the flat was 100 per cent damaged by smoke.

Crews used two breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a covering jet, as well as a thermal imaging camera and positive pressure ventilation fan.
