TWO Commonwealth flags flew over Teignmouth on Monday as part of the Commonwealth Day celebrations.

The main ceremony was in The Triangle, where the mayor, Cllr Jacqui Orme, read a message from the Commonwealth general secretary, and Mick Flory, of the RAFA, read the Commonwealth Affirmation. Also there were other councillors and officials.

The Commonwealth flag also flew at Bitton House.

In a message, Commonwealth secretary general Kamalesh Sharma declared: ‘Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth creates an occasion to acknowledge publicly and collectively, the continuing aspiration of the Commonwealth to build on common traditions, and upholding shared values of democracy, inclusive development, rule of law, and human rights, in order to serve the worth and prospects of all, especially women and youth.’
