THE Commonwealth Flag will be raised on Monday at 10am in Teignmouth Triangle on Commonwealth Day.

The mayor, Cllr Jacqui Orme, will read a message from Kamalesh Sharma, Commonwealth Secretary-General, which will be followed by the reading of the commonwealth affirmation.

The flag will be raised along with more than 850 others in locations throughout the United Kingdom, UK overseas territories and commonwealth countries.

Cllr Orme said: ‘I am pleased that Teignmouth is involved in this event to bring members of the commonwealth together. I look forward to seeing residents in the Triangle.’

Bruno Peek, orginator and commonwealth pageantmaster, of Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth, said: ‘I am amazed how quickly this event has caught the public imagination in so many countries. We are only in our third year, and the involvement of so many people of all ages and from all walks of life shows the enormous potential of this project and of the commonwealth.’
