Photographs galore of the Kingsway area of Teignmouth have been attracting plenty of attention this week. They are part of a unique exhbition organised by community artist Lauren Ballard and sound artist Cathryn Morgan-Richards to portray life on the estate. The exhibition, in the premises of a currently-empty convenience store, runs until Tuesday. The shop was open on Saturday for a one-day public event and garnered great interest, said Lauren. An audio item called Beautiful Fish and Chips featured the voices of older residents of Kingsway recalling their memories of the estate and worked alongside photographs taken both by younger and older people. The images were original and picturesque, portraying a wide variety of different views of Kingsway and the surrounding area.Lauren and Cathryn have been working with groups of residents since March on the Your View project and have presented prizes for the best shots. Those who attended Saturday's event were invited to vote for their favourite photograph and one of them, a children's play park, is likely to be framed for its owner.Voters enjoyed a free fish and chips lunch as a reward for their endeavours.Said Lauren: 'We had a lot of positive feedback from people who were really interested in seeing what the area was like.'We are hoping for more exhibitions like this.
