COASTGUARDS have urged fishermen to take all gear home with them after they were called out to help find a suspected missing person.

Dawlish Coastguards took to Facebook to say: ‘Dawlish Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 7am on July 9 by Devon & Cornwall Police to concerns for a fisherman after unattended gear was located on the beach from the previous evening.

‘Extensive searches in and around the area were conducted. We were assisted by Torbay Coastguard Rescue Team.

‘No[one was located and the team were stood down.

‘Please make sure you take all your gear with you when leaving the beach, be it fishing, SUP or swimming.’
