THE £1.6 million scheme to extend and enhance the Teignmouth fish quay area took another step forward this week.

The Teign Fishermen and Watermen's Association is promoting the project, which will enhance a rather scruffy part of the harbour and bring huge commercial and community benefits.

The town council's planning sub-committee has given enthusiastic support to an outline planning application, which will soon go before Teignbridge Council development control committee for a decision.

Broadly, the plan is to widen the quay to provide an improved area for landing, sorting and processing catches from the resort's fishing boats, with better storage facilities.
