FIREFIGHTERS rescued an elderly man trapped in a car following a collision near Ipplepen.

Crews from Newton Abbot and Torquay attended the incident, which occurred yesterday, Monday, April 7, just off the A381 Totnes Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the vehicle on its side with the gentleman trapped inside.

Utilising stabilisation equipment, small tools, one hose reel jet and a reciprocating saw, the joint Newton Abbot and Torquay crew freed the man.

He was then handed over to the care of the ambulance crew.
