FIRE crews across Devon are set to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day this week.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service will be acknowledging its significance with colleagues across the service marking the occasion in different ways.
Chief Fire Officer, Gavin Ellis, will be attending the flag raising on Plymouth Hoe and several fire stations will be attending local events and celebrations across the region.
At midday, a two-minute silence will be observed for colleagues working at Service Headquarters
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘The 80th anniversary of VE Day is a significant milestone.
‘It gives us all an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many during the war, including those who fought on the front lines and those who supported the war effort at home.
‘It is also a time to celebrate the peace that has been sustained in Europe for the past eight decades.
‘You can find out more about the planned celebrations on the VE Day 80 website.’
