FIREFIGHTERS from Buckfastleigh , Ashburton and Bovey Tracey were tasked to one of a series of fires that broke out on Dartmoor last night (Monday, March 28)

Crews responded to reports of a large fire on Dockwell Ridge near Didworthy on South Dartmoor just after 10.15pm.

Crews awaited the arrival of the fire service drone to survey the area before deciding it was safe to tackle the fire.

The ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) from Bovey Tracey was used to attack the fire using a high pressure lance. It is believed that the fire had been started earlier by a disposable barbecue and the fire service is once again asking people not to use these types of barbecues on the moor due to the potential for fires of this type.

Firefighters who attended the incident would also like to thank the local farmers who proved to be a massive help in bringing this large fire under control and provided a safe route too and from the fire.

Crews returned home to stations at 5am this morning.
