FIREFIGHTERS from Newton Abbot were called into action this morning to tackle a hedge fire in Milber that had spread to four back gardens.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received reports of the blaze behind properties on Swanborough Road just after 8am on Wednesday, July 22.

Three appliances were sent to the scene, including from Torquay, where crews found a large fire involving several back gardens.

Firefighters used three hose reel jets and one attack jet to bring the flames under control and prevent further spread.

The fire has now been extinguished, with two crews remaining at the scene to damp down hotspots and ensure the area is safe.
