TEIGNMOUTH carnival organisers are keeping their fingers crossed that the weather will be kind for the highlight of the week this evening – the grand procession.
Chairman Dave Matthews predicted it could be one of the best parades through the town centre and seafront for some time.
'Entries have been pouring in from all over south Devon, right up until the last minute. I think there is a treat in store for everybody this year,' he said.
The floats start to line-up on the Upper Den Carriageway from 5.30pm, and the procession is due to move off around 7.30pm.
This year the carnival committee has spent a lot more on attractions – the total overhead is around £36,000 – and they are hoping they can cover the cost from takings and donations.
So far, the weather has been kind for most of the week and thousands of locals and holidaymakers have enjoyed a host of fun events, displays, bands, quizzes, dancers, a talent contest, modelling, fancy dress and stalls.
Tomorrow is final day for the carnival frivolity with a much anticipated music festival on the Den, headlined by local favourites, the up-and-coming Quails, and a host of other groups.
