A TEIGNMOUTH man with only one leg aims to swim the equivalent of 50 miles, to raise money for his teenage great niece who is undergoing treatment in America for a rare form of cancer.

Tony Wilkes, 52, will have to swim 5,364 lengths of the 15-metre pool at the Cliffden Hotel, and reckons it will take him at least a year.

He hopes his efforts will boost the fund for Jasmine Flay, 18, who has been travelling for more than two years to the National Institute of Health in Bethesda in Maryland, a world leader in pioneering cancer treatments.
