A HELPLINE for people feeling isolated, distressed or upset, will be staying open during the festive season.

Mindline South Devon & Torbay is manned by volunteers who provide a listening ear for people who need to talk to somebody.

‘Christmas and new year can be a time of year that can be hard for some people, who can feel lonely. Mindline will be here for those who would like to talk to someone in confidence about what they may be going through,’ said a spokesman.

The service is available out of hours, and can also give basic information about mental health and local services.

It has been operating since May, and there has been an increase in calls. It is open between 8pm-11pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays on 0300 330 5464.

All the volunteers are fully trained and they may have an interest in mental health, survivors or personal experience helping close ones.

Mindline will be open on the evenings of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and December 27.

They are recruiting more volunteers and full information can be had by emailing [email protected] or calling 01823 334 906.
