TWO works by Teignbridge artists have been chosen to illustrate the annual Christmas cards from a local charity.
Michelle Greenwood Brown, whose design was chosen last year, organised an exhibition at the Teignmouth TAAG centre for artists who entered a competition to select the artwork for the Helen Foundation festive cards.
Professional artist Emma Childs picked the winners – Maureen Fayle (pictured right) with her winter trees, and Niamh Geraghty’s winter berries (above right).
There was also a competition for the favourite public choice, which was won by Mary East for her entry, snowfields towards Mamhead (above).
‘This was the first year we have had an exhibition and I am hoping it will become an annual event.
‘All the money from the sale of the cards will go to the charity, and the artists benefit from good publicity because the cards are sent all over the country and the world,’ said Ms Greenwood-Brown.
Roger Kirk, chairman of the Helen Foundation, which helps youngsters in Teignbridge make their way in the arts world, said: ‘We were absolutely delighted when Michelle organised the exhibition and competition.
‘It was very moving to find so many artists responding, and the worthy winners produced outstanding work.
‘The winning cards will shortly be on sale in Teignmouth at T&B Footwear, TAAG, The Shambles, Ashleigh Way Post Office, and Shaldon Post Office or can be ordered by calling 01626 871076.
Roger Smith, of TAAG, added: ‘We were delighted that Michelle and the Helen Foundation chose TAAG for their exhibition.
‘The gallery has extensive links with the community, and seemed right for such an event.’
